Leaking Power Vents
This client is a good friend of E.M. Blue. He has a beautiful tile roof, and whenever he has a roof repair, he calls us up! This client has two leaky power vents on his tile roof that leak when it rains hard. He wanted them removed, but we told them that we have run into this exact problem before and we could fix the problem without removing the vents all together.
We presented a solution to this problem that the client loved. The problem is that the vents are installed on a steep pitch, so in a heavy rain the water hits on the upper side of the vent and bounces up under the lid. From there, it leaks into the attic and onto the sheetrock below. In order to fix this problem, we install an aluminum skirt on the upper portion of the lid which deflects the water but still allows the air to flow.

This job turned out perfectly. By attaching the aluminum skirts to the upper portion of the power vent lids, we cut off the water’s access into the home. It took us a couple hours to complete, but at the end, the client was very impressed with our handiwork.
