Leaky Spots on the Roof
The customer had a leak in their roof in two spots and wanted them fixed. After close examination, we found the leaks and gave a bid. We priced to change out one three inch PVC pipe boot that was worn out and allowing water into the attic. We also priced to remove and replace 50 feet of old aluminum ridge vent with new plastic rigid ridge vent. We needed to replace the ridge vent because water was getting through the loose nail holes into the attic.
Aluminum Ridge Vent Replacement
There was 50 feet of aluminum ridge vent that was causing the roof to leak. The old ridge vents were installed using one inch shingle nails into the decking. These one inch nails worked themselves out over time causing leaks. When we replaced the aluminum vents, we used 3 inch ring nails and made sure to nail into studs for strength. Our replacement method will make the customer’s roof last much longer. Their vents are more secure now and the new nails we used will ensure a leak-proof roof.
PVC Pipe Boot Leak
The PVC pipe boot was causing water to leak into the attic. Water damage in an attic can be a pain to fix, as it can ruin insulation and cause mold and damaged wood. In order to stop this leak, we took off the old PVC pipe boot and installed a new one using new shingles to go around the new boot. Not only was the old 3 inch pipe boot worn out, but was also improperly installed. We made sure to install the new boot properly, so there would be no more leaks into the attic.
