E.M. Blue Inc. does roof repairs in Atlanta! This roof repair took place on December 13. Our client had a leak in her bedroom that she needed to be fixed. It was ruining the ceiling and she was afraid of a mold issue. We come across many homes where there has been a leak for a while and the result is accumulated mold in the home. Recent jobs we have done are a PVC pipe boot repair and a roofing project in Senoia.
After inspecting this roof, we found that the leak was caused by a tree branch that had fallen and punched a hole through the shingles. We bid to replace the broken shingles. As well as the shingles being damaged, we found that a decking board was too short and was hanging an inch too low. This was causing the shingles to have a dip in them and thereby causing water to pool on the roof adding to the problem. We first pulled up the shingles in the damaged area. We then removed the damaged tar paper to find the hanging deck board. We cut out the board that was too short and replaced it with a longer board. We then refelted and reshingled the area to take care of the problem.
It just so happened that the falling tree branch that created the hole in the shingles landed in the exact same area that the improperly installed deck board was. At first, I thought that the tree branch had caused the board to droop but this was not the case, it was purely coincidental.
This job turned out very well. As well as the shingles being damaged, we found that a decking board was too short and was hanging an inch too low. This was causing the shingles to have a dip in them and thereby causing water to pool on the roof adding to the problem.
We first did work for Sylvia back in 2005 on the same roof around her chimney. She had kept our companies information all this time so when she had more roofing problems, she called to have me help out again. Additionally, this client had a squirrel getting into her home through her chimney cap, she had chased it out of the house, but to stop it from entering again, we installed wire mesh over the hole in the cap.
